The château d’Azay-le-Rideau is a jewel of the Renaissance. It is situated in the west of the Touraine area near the château de Villandry and its gardens. It was built by a very important member of the court of Louis XII: Gilles Berthelot.
Surrounded by a mirror of water which reflects its beauty, the château d’Azay-le-Rideau displays all the French Renaissance charm that this area is renowned for. Over the last two years the château has undergone huge renovation, restoring it to its former beauty. The gardens have been replanted, the building facades have been cleaned, and the famous salon des Biencourt has been refurbished.
Visitors can now visit the recently restored roof structure and access the pathway around the castle walls. There is a very informative exhibition, which monitors the progress of the restoration, near to the entrance. The château of Azay-le-Rideau has been restored to its former glory and promises you a visit full of interesting discoveries!
